FAQ - The Backstrap

Where can I find a user manual for The BackStrap™?
What conditions does it help?
The BackStrap and ball kit safely and effectively helps relieve symptoms associated with low back pain such as sciatica, degenerative joint disease, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, facets joint sprains and strains, and muscle strains.
How do you use the BackStrap and Ball Kit?
Simply select the type and size of ball depending on the size of the body part you want to release, and the density or comfort desired.
Recommendations:
Large Myofascial Ball
Large muscle groups like the gluteals, hamstrings, quadriceps and quadratus.
Medium Myofascial Ball
Small, long muscle groups like the erector spinae (muscles along the sides of the spine), upper trapezius and levator scapulae (neck and shoulder), rhomboids, arm muscles, calf muscles, base of head.
Small Precision Ball
Plantar fascia (bottom of foot), palm of the hand and wrist (carpal tunnel).
What are the Thermal Ball and Ice Ball, and how do I use them?
These balls are used based on preference. If you have a chronically tight lower back, you may want to use a warm ball, or maybe you respond better to cold. Typically, choose to warm the ball when seeking relief from chronic stiffness, and use the ice ball for acute muscle spasm.
How do I use the Thermal/Ice Ball?
The thermal ball can be heated by submerging it completely in water and heating it in the microwave for 1 — 2.5 minutes. To freeze, place the same ball in the freezer for up to 4 hours. Then insert it into the BackStrap just like the other balls.
Do I need any particular fitness level to use the BackStrap?
No. Any person from a teenage athlete to a sedentary senior citizen can reap the benefits.
How does the BackStrap and Ball Kit release my tight muscles?
Using the principles of elastic and plastic stress and strain. Meaning, every connective tissue in your body from bone, ligament, tendon, muscle and fascia has a different elastic and plastic property. By holding pressure against the tissue, it will enlongate and release over time. Typically, tight muscles, scar tissue and fascia will release with holding for 1 — 5 minutes.
What is the technique or procedure for releasing tight muscles?
Select a ball. Place it in the appropriate pocket and position it over the desired muscle to be released and lean up against it, lie on it, or pull down on it to apply the desired amount of pressure and time, based on your needs (approximately 1 — 5 minutes per spot).
Can I use my own balls in the BackStrap?
Yes. The BackStrap was designed so that you could use balls typically found around the house. i.e. Dog balls, tennis balls, golf balls and toy balls. However, the size and density of the balls included in the BackStrap kit will suit most people's needs.
